Excellent Saffron

I was pleasantly surprised to find this current incarnation of Shroff's "soft" Saffron has a similar profile to the sublime, pungent stick fans may remember back in the day, which was extremely strong, and not at all sweet. This newer stick is softer and sweeter, but to my nose, there is plenty of saffron oil in it and the sweet notes are harmonised and quiet, if that makes sense. So a very smooth burn. The other thing about it is that it has kept this peculiar, fusty note in the background that transports one immediately to India. I think this current stick works very well in a small house; the pungency of the c. 2012 edition could sometimes overwhelm. I give this top marks!

Not enough saffron

I wanted a powerful saffron flavour, like making saffron rice. But the saffron gets overpowered by other scents. You can still get a whiff of saffron from time to time, but it's subtle.
